The variegated String of Nickels (scientifically known as Dischidia nummularia 'Variegata' or Dischidia oiantha 'Variegata') is a rare epiphytic trailing plant known for its small, round, succulent leaves that resemble coins. The variegated variety features creamy white, silver, or light green edges that provide a striking contrast to the darker green foliage.
Care Overview for 2026
- Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate lower light but should avoid intense midday sun, which can scorch the leaves.
- Watering: Allow the soil or growing medium to dry out completely between waterings. As an epiphyte, it is sensitive to overwatering.
- Humidity: Prefers high humidity. Regular misting or placement in a humid environment like a bathroom is beneficial.
- Temperature: Best kept in warm environments between 18°C and 24°C.
Light
• Bright indirect light encourages vertical growth
• Too little light = leggy, floppy plant
