Dischidia vidalii, commonly referred to as the Ant Plant or Kangaroo Pocket, is a singularly unique epiphytic climbing vine native to the Philippines. Its claim to fame stems from its hollow, pouch-like leaves that foster a symbiotic relationship with ants. This plant species produces diminutive, green, oval-shaped leaves and significantly larger, hollow leaves that form 'pouches.' Ants utilize these pouches as shelter in the wild, reciprocating by providing the plant with vital nutrients through their waste and defending it against herbivores. The plant blooms with clusters of small, bright red to magenta flowers throughout the year.
